Darryl E. Phillips, D.D.S.

Dr. Phillips has provided pediatric dental care for the children of Knoxville since 2006.  He is originally from Clinton, TN and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Biology from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Phillips attended dental school at The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis from 2000 – 2004. After dental school, Dr. Phillips completed an additional two year residency program to specialize in pediatric dentistry at UT Memphis.  During his pediatric dental residency he received extensive clinical, emergency, and surgical training at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital and Crittendon Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Phillips’s favorite part of his residency was treating children from all over the world at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dr. Phillips is passionate about dentistry and he is very active in the dental profession. He has a specialty license to practice pediatric dentistry in Tennessee and he is a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry (SSPD), and the Tennessee Dental Association (TDA).

When Dr. Phillips isn’t taking care of kid’s teeth, he enjoys water-skiing and wakeboarding on Norris Lake. He is an enthusiastic UT fan (Go Vols!) and he also likes hiking in the Smokies, playing golf, and snow skiing. Dr. Phillips is happily married to his wife, Jennifer, who is a certified public account and works with him in the practice.  When they are away from the practice they enjoy traveling together, being on the lake, and spending time with family and friends.

Robin Paton, Treatment Coordinator

Robin has been a member of our team since the day we opened in August 2006.  She worked in pediatric, prosthodontic, and general dentistry offices for 17 years before joining us.  She especially enjoys pediatric dentistry and is looking forward to meeting all of you.  Robin is a big Vol fan and she is always ready to hear, "It's football time in Tennessee!"  When she is not at the office, Robin loves spending time with her family and friends.  She has a wonderful husband and two sons that keep her on her toes.  Robin enjoys anything outdoors in the spring and summer (especially trips to the beach), visiting the mountains in the fall, and reading a good book on snowy days in the winter.

Tammy Gunnels, Dental Assistant

Tammy has been a Registered Dental Assistant since 1996, and she is certified in coronal polishing, nitrous oxide monitoring, and placing sealants.  Tammy joined us in September 2007 after 8 years of previous assisting experience in pediatric dentistry.  Her vivacious personality and sense of humor are great assets in working with children.  She wants everyone to have lots of fun while they’re visiting us!  Tammy loves it when her patients color pictures for her, so she’d really like it if you draw something special for her.  When Tammy is away from the office she loves spending time with her son, Grant, who is the light of her life.

Ami Patel, Dental Hygienist

Ami was born and raised in Mississippi and later moved to Atlanta, Georgia to get a bachelors degree at Emory University in 2002.  Shortly afterwards, she went to hygiene school and earned her degree in 2005. During 2007, Ami got married, moved to Knoxville, and joined our team.  Ami loves taking care of her patient’s teeth and believes that dental hygienists are the “firefighters of the mouth.”  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her pug dog, Caesar.  Ami is a very adventurous person - she’s been whitewater rafting, sky diving, and bungee jumping!  She also enjoys shopping, reading fashion magazines and traveling out of the country.  So kids, come on in and show Ami your cutest outfit and tell her what to do and where to go in Tennessee!
