Your First Visit with Dr. Phillips
Before Your Appointment
1. Complete your child’s patient paperwork. Shortly after scheduling your child’s appointment with us you should have received an email from Children’s Dentistry of Knoxville. It contained a link to an electronic version of our patient paperwork. We do ask that you complete this and submit it electronically at least 1 day prior to your appointment. Submitting your forms online will enable both our clinical and admin staff to prepare for your child's first visit prior to your arrival.
If you are unable to complete the forms online prior to your appointment, please arrive 30 minutes before your child's appointment time to complete these forms in the office.
2. Talk to your child about the appointment – if you are excited about the visit, they will be too!
- Tell your child about the visits but limit the amount of details given. Answer any questions with simple, to-the-point answers. Let our staff answer more complex or detailed questions. Our staff is trained to describe things to children in a nonthreatening way and in easy-to-understand language
- Don't tell your child about an unpleasant dental experience that you've had.
- Help your child understand how important it is to have healthy teeth and gums and that it’s Dr Darryl’s job to help us take care of our teeth
During Your Appointment
Your child will be the center of attention at their first visit (and each one thereafter!)
During your child’s first appointment we will
- Go over your child's history, both dental and medical
- Complete a thorough examination of the teeth and gums
- Take X-rays, as needed
- Make your child's teeth sparkle with polish and fluoride (*dependent on age and cooperation)
- Answer any questions you may have concerning your child's oral health
We know that both you and your child have busy lives, so please keep in mind that your child's first visit will last 50 minutes
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that your child come back to the Pediatric Dentist every six months for ideal tooth and gum health.
Your First Visit with Dr. Britton
Whether your child is “graduating” from Dr Phillips’ care to Dr Britton, or if they are a new patient to Children’s Dentistry of Knoxville, we want you to know what to expect during your appointment. If your child is an established patient, the transition from Dr Phillips to Dr Britton should be seamless. Your child will continue their care in a familiar environment, but they will find that Dr Britton’s clinical area maintains our safari theming,
yet feels more mature as patients can enjoy Apple TV and hear their favorite music playing in our hallways. Our goal is to make our environment age appropriate for all our patients – as your child grows, we grow with them!
